the couch broke, so I made another one

When I was renovating the RV in Colorado 5 months ago, I needed a couch. I could not find one, so I made one. Apparently this is not the best idea. Because it broke. It was a moment of hilarity because in the last 2 weeks a lot of weird things in the RV  have been breaking or falling apart. Like all the outlets minus 2, that is a serious pain in the butt.

Anyways, when the couch broke the boys did not even notice, they kept using it for the day. It was like a slide, and they were laying at an angle watching a movie-oh my.

I got up and decided to tackle the project. The couch is the center of the house, it needed to be fixed asap. I was thinking of just throwing out the coffee tables and making a cozy floor bed. It was very common in asia and we did not mind it when we were there, so I knew we could pull it off.

Trek (soooo cute) loved the floor bed in Nikko, Japan

But after I threw out the broken table and saw the other 2 were just fine, I rearranged my plan.

This idea may have worked if I had not bought tables from IKEA. They were made of partical board and the accordian stuff at the top is thick paper. We didn’t have a chance.

Then there were two. I had to rip the flooring up underneath the couch a few weeks ago after the kitchen sink leaked. I also realized that I was not going to be able to make a floor bed as easy as I thought with the gray exhaust tubing. I thought about just cutting it out, we are not using it and probably never will, but then I realized I might could still salvage the couch.

They fit perfect this way and made it sturdier. It also gave us more floor room, about 6 inches which might as well been a spare bedroom in this RV!

So then I pulled down the mattress from the top bed (which was smaller) and switched it with the larger couch mattress.

It fit perfect.

There is some major ugliness underneath the couch, but it will have to stay for now, I am in no mood to fix it.

Plus this duvet covered the ugliness perfectly.

And then it was finished, a new couch in 10 minutes:)

We all ended up liking it better. It fit better in the space and felt more like a couch.

The last time I showed the living room it looked like this with 2 “real” chairs.IMG_2312

I loved both of those chairs, but they were taking up too much room. When the boys would homeschool (at the pull-out table between the chairs), it was very difficult to get the chairs turned around to face the table.

So I went on a search looking for small comfortable chairs. I finally found these dining chairs at World Market. They have worked perfectly in the space and for homeschool. (my sister made us the Adventure sign in the middle:)

hehe:) I made a little moss nest for one of Trek’s owl toys

Peyton was my tester (since it is ultimately his bed) and he loved it:)

Project #20,678 finished in the RV!
